Who is this award for?
SLSGB members aged 11 and over who hold a valid Tube Rescuer Award and want to develop their rescue board skills as part of a water safety team. Those aged 11 and over can use the award for event competency only, those aged 14–15 may provide supervised supernumerary water safety cover, and those aged 16 and over may provide fully competent safety cover independently. Once achieved, this award is valid indefinitely.
What is covered during the award?
The Rescue Board Paddler Award equips members with the knowledge and practical skills to provide supporting water safety cover using a rescue board. Training combines land and water-based activities and covers:
- The underpinning knowledge and skills needed to work within a beach environment
- A competent level of rescue board paddling skill sufficient to act as supporting water safety cover for Surf Life Saving sessions
How is the assessment completed?
You will be assessed by your Trainer Assessor or Level 1 or 2 Coach using a combination of observation and practical demonstration. The award is trainer assessed as it is delivered, across a minimum of 4 Guided Learning Hours, which can be completed over a number of weeks or in a single full day.
Is prior experience required for this award?
To complete the Rescue Board Paddler Award you will need to hold a valid Tube Rescuer Award as a minimum
