Youth

The Youth pathway is where members begin to develop stronger lifesaving skills, personal confidence and leadership experience.

Designed for young people aged 13–16+, the Graduate Lifeguard Programme provides a structured progression that helps members grow from confident participants into capable lifesavers, preparing them for future lifeguard qualifications, volunteering and leadership roles.

The Graduate Lifeguard Programme

The Graduate Lifeguard is a three-year development programme that combines practical lifesaving skills with personal growth and real-world experience.

Young members learn not only how to keep others safe around water but also gain skills that support future education, employment and wider life opportunities. When members reach age 16, they can progress toward formal lifeguard qualifications.

Key areas of development include:

Lifeguard techniques and rescue skills

Teamwork and communication

Problem solving and decision making

Leadership and responsibility

Community engagement and water safety awareness
