Simon Perry
Award: Services to Lifesaving

If surf lifesaving competitions run smoothly, safely and professionally, there is often someone working tirelessly behind the scenes to make that happen — and for many of our major events, that person has been Simon Perry.

In January 2025, Simon achieved ILSE A Grade Pool Referee status — a significant international benchmark reflecting both technical expertise and trust. That achievement was only the beginning of a remarkable year. By March he was Chief Referee at the Nipper Pool Championships, setting the standard for the next generation of athletes. In April he oversaw Youth, Senior and Masters Pool Championships across a full weekend — even balancing those responsibilities with his own stag celebrations, a testament to both commitment and good humour.

The summer months saw Simon step into multiple senior leadership roles: Area Referee and commentator at the Masters, Youth and Nipper Ocean Championships, before travelling to Poland to serve as Chief Referee at the European Youth Ocean Championships. On his return, he once again led from the front as Chief Referee at the Senior Ocean Championships.

Beyond the waterline, Simon develops Level 1 and 2 Officials training resources, delivers courses nationwide, and is piloting online learning to future-proof officiating. He serves on the One Team GB selection panel and ensures seamless collaboration between SLSA Wales and SLSGB.

Simon’s leadership is calm, measured and quietly authoritative. He strengthens our sport not for recognition, but because he believes in excellence. Tonight, we proudly honour Simon Perry for his outstanding Services to Lifesaving.
