Some heroes stand on the start line. Others stand behind it — making sure everything works.

Sarah Hunter is one of those heroes.

A Trustee, Membership Secretary and Merchandise Liaison at Mundesley SLSC, Sarah joined the club determined to be fully involved — and within a year had earned the trust and respect of the board. Despite serious knee injury and ongoing medical challenges that now prevent her from taking part in beach activities, her dedication has never diminished.

For two consecutive years, Sarah has volunteered at Nationals Week — not as a competitor, but as a learner, supporter and organiser. She immersed herself in marshalling, refereeing assistance, team management and event logistics. Last year, she progressed to become a trusted lead marshal, calmly managing pre-event athlete anxiety and ensuring heats ran efficiently and fairly.

At the Eastern Region Competition, Sarah’s knowledge of LiveHeats systems — merging, withdrawals, entries and heat management — played a key role in delivering a smooth and professional event.

What makes Sarah’s contribution even more remarkable is that she has no family members competing. Her commitment is entirely selfless. She gives her time because she believes in community, in fairness and in helping others thrive.
