Branksome in Bournemouth to host the GB Ocean Beach trial on the 1 & 2 June 2024

We are pleased to announce that Branksome in Bournemouth will host the GB Ocean Beach trial on the 1 & 2 June 2024.

The organising Committee recommended the venue to the GBR One Team after full and carefully consideration of a number of key factors, some of which we detail below:

 

1. We have to ensure the highest probability of completing a full trial event programme to enable a fair and robust selection process  
   1. Branksome has proven over the previous years to enable a full event programme.
   2. With small tidal movement the logistics of running the trial will not impact on the event programme.
   3. As a full event programme has been completed it has enabled a fair and robust selection process.

2. Utilising an alternative venue that has different conditions (i.e. North Coast/Surf conditions)

1. 1. Alternative venue increases the risk that a full trial event programme may not be completed and not provide a fair and robust selection process.
   2. With greater tidal movements the logistics of running a full trial programme will be impacted.
   3. There is no guarantee that surf conditions will be present on the selected trial dates. Alternatively, the surf conditions may be too large to hold the trial event.

3. There are no beaches in the UK that replicate the potential ocean conditions of Kurrawa, the venue for LWC2024.

 

4. As published on the declaration criteria, selectors will also consider ocean/beach results achieved from 1 July 2023 to 1 May 2024.

1. 1.  The ocean conditions on which these results were achieved will also be taken into consideration.

There will be a £20 entry fee to compete at the event.
