About

Surf Life Saving GB brings together local community volunteers from diverse backgrounds, with one shared vision – to prevent drowning. Together we train and support people to build resilient coastal and inland communities across the UK.

Our values

From Aberdeen to St Ives, young and old, first-time swimmers to seasoned patrol captains – everyone is welcome and valued. We stand shoulder-to-shoulder as volunteers, fundraisers and supporters, united by a shared purpose. Each voice matters, and every role is vital to keep our coast and waterways safe.

We make split-second decisions in dangerous water and harsh conditions, balancing calculated risks with the urgent need to save lives. Our courage comes not from recklessness, but from rigorous training, trusted equipment, and the knowledge that our team has our back. This ethos flows through everything we do, from training children and young people to speaking out about water safety.

The ocean and waterways are our greatest teachers and our most demanding partners. We understand their behaviour, respect their power, and never underestimate their capacity for both beauty and danger. This deep connection makes us better guardians of the environment and those who enter our waters.

Every rescue teaches us something new, every training session sharpens our skills, and every season brings fresh challenges. From mastering new rescue techniques and medical interventions to understanding changing coastal conditions, our commitment to growth ensures we’re always ready when lives depend on us.
